Applications & Uses

Application Method
Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
Usage
  • As a color top coat for many Miracote products/systems.
  • Stand-alone protective coating for concrete surfaces.
  • For use in recoating other acrylic-based topcoats.
  • Exterior and interior concrete and other surfaces.
  • Horizontal, vertical and overhead applications.
Installation Steps
  • Surface preparation - All surfaces must be clean, sound, dry and free from any bond inhibiting substances including, but not limited to, grease, oil and any other contaminants or loosely adhered materials. For concrete substrates, a minimum concrete surface profile of CSP-1 to CSP-3 is required depending on overall substrate and application conditions, and coating or sealing requirements. At the time of application, minimum and maximum substrate temperatures must be 50°F (10°C) and 90°F (32.2°C), respectively. Temperatures outside these limits may negatively affect film formation, and lead to other application issues detrimental to performance and esthetics. When pressure-washing concrete always allow the substrate to thoroughly dry prior to application.
  • Mixing - Prior to use, mechanically agitate or mix MiraGard Colorbond XL with drill and paddle at low speed to ensure any settlement of solids are brought back into suspension and to minimize air entrapment.
  • Application - Using spray equipment: Apply one to two thin even coats depending on substrate porosity, performance and service conditions. The application of two coats is recommended and will always provide the best results. Do not over-apply or allow to puddle onto the surface. Using Brushes/Rollers: Apply MiraGard Colorbond XL in a continuous uniform film using conventional short nap high quality roller covers, lambswool applicators, or by natural bristle brush.
For Best Results
  • Always install a minimum 4’ by 4’ test area or job site mock-up for owner approval of acceptable color, texture, finish, adhesion, and any other critical requirement prior to proceeding.
  • Always protect materials from excessive heat and cold, and precondition to room temperature as necessary.
  • Regularly check wet film thickness with a mil gage. Monitor consumption to ensure correct application rates are obtained.
  • The proper application of this product is the sole responsibility of the end user. Job site visits by Miracote representatives are only for observation and making recommendations, and do not assume any liability for supervision or quality control.
  • It is recommended to apply in two coats at the published coverage rates. Do not apply in one thick coat.
  • For enhanced chemical resistance, cleanability and stain resistance apply MiraGard HDWB clear acrylic sealer.
  • Measure substrate temperatures to ensure that material is applied when temperatures are between 50°F (4.5°C) and 90°F (32.2°C) during placement.
