- Properties and Applications
METOLAT LA 524 is an universal wetting and dispersing agent. It is recommended for all solvent borne paint and lacquer systems to prevent flocculation and to improve grinding. It is suitable to disperse Bentone™ gelling agents. (Bentone™ is a trademark of Elementis Specialities.).
- Recommended Levels and Use
Ladder studies are recommended to determine optimum levels. Normal dosage ranges from 0.25 to 1.0 % on total formulation. The optimum treat levels should be added when using wetting and dispersing agents. The overdosage might reverse their effect. As a general rule, organic pigments require more wetting and dispersing agent than inorganic pigments. For most efficient use as a grinding aid, METOLAT LA 524 should be added early in the manufacturing process. However, the post addition to the finished paint is possible to eliminate flocculation or settling. The addition of METOLAT LA 524 is recommended for stabilizing of highly concentrated Bentone pastes (10 - 15 %). It should be added to the solvent before dispersion of the Bentone. The optimum level may be up to 5 % on finished paste.
