It is a polyhydroxy aldehyde. Pure glucose is colorless crystals with sweet taste but not as sweet as sucrose. It is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in ether. The aqueous solution rotates to the right, so it is also called "dextrose". Dextrose monohydrate is glucose containing one crystal water.
