AFCONA-5251 is a dispersant developed for dispersing and stabilizing transparent iron oxide pigments. Proper use of this product results in:
- Optimum transparency
- Higher color strength
- Flocculation stability
- Lower viscosity
AFCONA-5251 may also be used as a dispersant for other inorganic pigments and extenders, for which it reduces the viscosity in the dispersion. Therefore, it is very useful in highly filled systems. AFCONA-5251 differs from AFCONA-5051 because it is solvent-free. This makes this product very suitable in solvent-free or high solid applications. AFCONA-5251 is recommended for manufacturing resin-free or resin-containing transparent iron oxide pigment concentrates for decorative as well as industrial paints. Very stable concentrates up to 40% may be formulated with this product. Note: AFCONA – 5251 will become slightly hazy at temperatures below 5° C. This will not influence the performance of the product.

Calculation method for the required amount of active ingredient on pigment:
- Transparent iron Oxides : 10 – 20%
- TiO2 : 2 - 3%
- Other inorganic pigments : 2 - 4%
- Incorporation
AFCONA-5251 should be incorporated in the mill base before adding the pigments.

AFCONA-5251 should be stored in a cool, dry place. When kept in its original, unopened container, it will keep up to 5 years from the date of manufacture. The expiration date is indicated on the container.
