Film Properties and Processing

Synthalat E 405, a very low viscosity non-drying alkyd resin, is primarily intended for the
manufacture of full bodied wood and furniture coatings based on nitrocellulose. The rapid
solvent evaporation of these types of nitrocellulose-Synthalat E 405 lacquers is a special
characteristic which meets the higher demands of machine processing. Quickly sandable
coatings have a very fast sandability when suitable zinc sterate types are incorporated that also
meets the requirements of automatic sanding machines.
In topcoats Synthalat E 405 gives paint films a very high gloss and surface hardness and very
good body. In addition, these types of coatings have a very good light stability, so that
Synthalat E 405 can also be used for the coating of lighter species of wood.
Synthalat E 405 is also very suitable for the manufacure of acid curing wood finishes. In this
case it is combined with unplasticized urea or melamine resins in a ratio of 6:4 to 7:3. All
common dilute acids or acid salts can be used as the catalyst.
