Deuteron MM 677 can be used as a matting agent in various aqueous coating systems. These can be lacquers based on acrylic dispersion, wood glazings, wood- and furniture lacquers, printing inks and industrial finishes (air-drying and stoving enamels).In comparison with powdery matting agents Deuteron MM 677 particularly offers the advantage of dust-free handling. The product can be easily incorporated by all common dispersing processes. When producing clear varnish, only a small rate of shear is required to incorporate Deuteron MM 677. This prevents forming of micro foam in the production batch. Even when Deuteron MM 677 is added to the mill base or the dispersion-medium, overmilling is practically impossible due to its excellent shear stability.The matting liquid is kept free of wetting agent and binder. Their presence usually limits the compatibility. Waxes or similar products are not included either. This allows for the use of Deuteron MM 677 in a wide field of applications. Deuteron SO 300 is a fine dispersion of an elastomer in water. It imparts coatings with a “soft touch” surface, even if the binder is not an especially soft or elastic type. At the same time it acts as a matting agent. The effect depends on the dosage and the system’s other components, particularly the binder. Deuteron SO 300 is temperature resistant up to 160 °C.The small particle size makes the product suitable for thin-film applications. Deuteron SO 300 contains no waxes and thus does not negatively affect the recoatability.In 2-component lacquers, the inherent OH-functionality allows the product to be cross-linked in the coating matrix. Deuteron MM 659 reduces the gloss in above mentioned coating systems. At a higher dosage the viscosity will only be slightly increased. Good flow and processibility remain and allow for all usual application processes.Spoiling of the transparency in UV-curing lacquers is not possible due to the favorable composition of Deuteron MM 659. The obtained coating surfaces show excellent resistance regarding burnishing and mar resistance. The use of Deuteron MM 659 imparts coatings with a soft touch. In general, the additional use of waxes, PTFE or similar products is not necessary. A reaction between matting agent and lacquer system and therefore a spoiling of the storage stability has not been noticed. back
