- African Mahogany, Khaya senegalensis, is a tropical tree known for its strength and stability. Its majestic silhouette, reaching the sky, instantly evokes a sense of power and longevity. The teams from Beauty Creations wished to transfer these benefits to the skin by drawing inspiration from this treasure of nature. BASF’s scientists discovered that Collalift®18, extracted from the bark, has the property to stimulate the synthesis of collagen XVIII.
- Collagen XVIII is an important structural component of the skin basement membranes which interfaces between the various skin layers. As structural component of these membranes, it gives them tone and strength. This is also the only heparan sulfate collagen with biological activity that is present in all layers of the skin.
- We instinctively felt that by acting on this new biological target, we could obtain a beneficial effect for the skin.
- Through more than five years of exploratory research, the teams from Beauty Creations made a crucial innovation after discovering that the synthesis of Collagen XVIII declines with age.
- We also demonstrated that Collalift®18, an Ecocert-approved extract sourced in Burkina Faso, stimulates the production of this special collagen, both at the dermal-epidermal junction and in the basement membrane of adipose cells.
