AFCONA 3239 is an additive designed as a slip and leveling agent that also offers defoaming. It is a very suitable leveling agent for epoxies, and will not stabilize foam, but instead act as an effective defoamer in such systems.

Chemical Family: Polyether Polysiloxanes, Polysiloxane, Organomodified

Labeling Claims: Not Listed In California Proposition 65

Compatible Polymers & Resins: Alkyds, Epoxies (EP), Nitrocellulose, Polyurethanes (PU), Unsaturated Polyester (UPE)

Features: Anti-Cratering , Defoaming

End Uses: 2K (2 component) Coating, Coil Coating, Epoxy Coating, Gelcoat, Radiation Curable Coating, Solventborne Coating, Solventless & High Solids Coating, Top Coat, Wood Coating

Product Features

AFCONA-3239 does not stabilize foam, so it is often recommended for the foam-sensitive systems listed below:

  1. Solvent–free epoxies
  2. High solid or solvent-free polyurethane
  3. Paints applied by curtain coater
  4. Paints applied by airless spray application
  5. UV curing systems
  • For matte finish coatings, the addition of AFCONA – 3239 will help in the orientation of matting agents. In UV curing systems, this product further reduces gloss when added together with a matting agent.
  • AFCONA-3239 is not recommended in high gloss clear coats because it may cause in-can haziness.
Product Comparision
The alkyl modification of AFCONA - 3239 is longer than AFCONA - 3236, which gives AFCONA 3239 better defoaming performance. However, it may give more in-can haziness in polar systems like polyurethane and epoxy. The longer alkyl modification also offers less slip performance.

Incorporation
AFCONA-3239 may be added at any stage of the production process. However, its defoaming properties require high shear force for proper mixing if it is added in the letdown stage. For easier incorporation, dilute to 10% in any solvent/s.
Addition and Dosage
AFCONA-3239 may be added at 0.05 - 0.50% based on total formulation. Under normal conditions, 0.05 - 0.2% based on total formulation is sufficient.
