Amaze XT polymer is a naturally derived, multifunctional styling polymer. It has been developed to provide outstanding long- lasting hold under highly humid conditions, without the tack and flaking often associated with gels.
Amaze XT polymer offers not only the fixative properties, but it also serves as the thickener, simplifying the formulation and manufacturing process. In addition to styling products, Amaze® XT polymer is also suitable for use in skin care products such as facial masks, toner, lotion, creams and gels.
- Product Highlights
Features Benefits Multifunctional performance Emulsion stabilization, suspension and thickening, Cost effective.
Ease of use Easily dispersed with no neutralization required, Streamlines formulating.
Smooth feel Innovative textures for new sensory experiences and visual esthetics.
Naturally derived 100% natural to support sustainable and renewable product claims
- Formulation Guidelines
Supplied as a off-white free-flowing powder, Amaze® XT polymer is very simple to use. No heating is required and it goes into solution quickly, with no neutralization required. Typical usage levels are 0.25-2.50%.
Solubility
Amaze® XT polymer is soluble in water and ethanol (<30%). Clarity is maintained in hydroalcoholic solutions where the ethanol level is less than 30%.
Compatibility
Amaze® XT polymer is anionic in nature and is compatible with a wide range of materials commonly used in gels, such as silicones, propylene glycol, glycerin, proteins, vitamins, disodium EDTA, tetrasodium EDTA, and sodium phosphate.
For emulsion products such as creams, lotions, and low viscosity tonners, Amaze® XT polymer can be formulated with cationic polymers (e.g. <0.5% Celquat® H-100 polymer). If desired, it can also be combined with additional thickeners (e.g. Lubrizol’s Carbopol® series, Structure® XL starch, Structure® 2001 polymer, Structure® 3001 polymer, native xanthan gum, or hydroxyethylcellulose).

- Performance Properties
Amaze® XT polymer is a multifunctional ingredient that offers superior stabilization, suspension, and rheology modification. Amaze® XT polymer not only builds viscosity effectively, it also provides long-term stable suspension capabilities even at high temperatures. With Amaze® XT polymers, formulators can easily create visually appealing skin care products with novel textures and pleasing skin sensory.
Efficient thickening
Amaze® XT polymer provides efficient thickening at low use levels.

Shear thinning
Amaze® XT polymer exhibits good shear-thinning properties, enabling products that are easy to spread when applied on skin.

Clarity
Amaze® XT polymer enables clearer formulations than competitive polymers. Compared with Xanthan gum, gels formulated with Amaze® XT polymer show much better viscosity and clarity in solution.
Figure: Viscosity and clarity comparison (0.5%) in a gel solution
Homogenization of an Amaze® XT gel can provide a smoother texture and improve the gel clarity by approximately 10% transmittance. A homogenization speed of 300-600 rpm is recommended.
Suspension and stability
Gels formulated with Amaze® XT polymer effectively suspend beads and air bubbles. Long-term stability tests show encapsulation beads and air bubbles remain suspended in Amaze® XT (1%) gels after 3 months in a 45°C oven (see below, left). A comparison of the encapsulation of Jojoba beads in a clear gel solution shows Xanthan gum to provide nearly no suspension ability while Amaze® XT (0.5%) polymer exhibits very good suspension power after 1 month in a 45°C oven (see below, right).
Stability tests
Sensory
In sensory evalutions of a serum system, panelists awarded the formulation containing Amaze® XT polymer to have the best overall performance. The carbomer serum exhibits very good spreadability with poor vertical cling and the worst smoothness while the HEC serum demonstrates good smoothness, but a very sticky sensory. Amaze® XT polymer creates a typical mousse appearance, very good vertical cling, and better moisturization compared to other polymers tested making it the preferred choice in the panel testing.

Additional sensory testing of an emulsion system (data not shown here), compares Amaze® XT polymer with Xanthan gum. Amaze® XT provides better overall performance with firmer texture and better spreadability.

Storage & Handling
- Storage Conditions
Amaze XT polymer can be stored under ambient conditions without undergoing decomposition or degradation. This product is supplied in fiber containers. When not in use, the container should be kept covered to prevent dirt, dust, or moisture pick-up. Store in a cool, dry area.
