ICL Phosphate Specialty - HALOX® Company Logo
HALOX® CW-314 is a heavy metal-free, non-toxic, anti-corrosive pigment designed for use in waterborne and solvent-borne protective coating systems. It is particularly suitable for systems where 21 CFR 175.300 approval or compliance with ANSI or NSF standards is required. HALOX® CW-314 is highly effective in improving the infrared (IR) reflectance and thermal emissivity of elastomeric roof coatings. It enhances the total solar reflectance (TSR) while maintaining dirt pick-up resistance (DPUR) and preventing mildew growth. It can be used alone or in combination with other non-toxic corrosion inhibitors and mineral pigments in the formulation of environmentally friendly specialty paints.

Recommended Loading Levels

As an anti-corrosive pigment where specific approval as components of coatings used on food contact surfaces of packages in 21 CFR 175.300 is required, loading levels range from 3-8% based on total formula weight as well as for use as a corrosion inhibitor for potable water tank linings and pipe coatings which must conform to ANSI/NSF standards. As an additive to increase the TSR of elastomeric roof coatings containing CaCO3 and TiO2, recommended loading levels range from 10-30% based on total formula weight.

Factors to Consider while Creating Coatings Solutions
  • Combine the inhibitors utilize synergy of multiple mechanisms to achieve desired performance.
    • Inorganic/Flash Rust
    • Inorganic/Inorganic
    • Inorganic/Organic
  • Optimize Solubility of the inhibitor. Synergize short term and long term corrosion inhibitors based on their solubility.
  • Inhibitor Concentration avoid direct weight to weight replacements. Beneficial to optimize usage level.
  • Substrate specific corrosion inhibitor selection can be substrate dependent.
