"American Coding and Marking Ink Co. Inc. was established in 1971 by Robert S. Sweet, a chemical specialties consultant, to fill a void left by the closure of a local ink manufacturing company. In 1986, Robert retired, and his son Thomas became president. Thomas began his career with ACMI in the production department in 1971. Over the years, he has worked in all operational areas. December 2013 brought exciting change as Thomas Sweet Jr. took over as President after 18 years with the company. The company's first products were inks and solvents used by supermarkets as well as general purpose marking and stenciling inks. In the early 1970's, when the government banned the use of FD&C Violet #1 in meat branding inks on short notice, ACMI was one of the companies asked to help supply reformulated meat branding inks, to meat packers who found themselves unable to use the ink they had on hand. In 2001 ACMI was the 1st company to register their meat branding inks with NSF. ACMI also discovered a great need for the development of inks for special applications. Throughout the country, companies were developing new products and processes and needed inks to meet new requirements. As the years progressed, ACMI developed a large number of special application inks, including high temperature resistant, epoxy, tree marking, IR transparent, optical scanner readable and many more. ACMI has also leveraged its manufacturing and R&D expertise to custom manufacture dye solutions, pigment dispersions and other non-colored chemical mixes, as well as manufacturing government specification rubber stamp ink for the GSA and stamp cancelation ink for the US Post Office."

In 1875, Charles F. Stodder founded the India Alkali Works on Boston's historic India Wharf. The company manufactured a granulated soap called “Savogran” which was sold in bulk to hotels, railroads, textile mills and public institutions. Clem Stodder, Charles' son, saw potential for “Savogran” as a consumer product and began creating smaller packages for retail sale. It was soon discovered that consumers could easily remember the popular “Savogran” name but not the identity of the company which manufactured it. So, in 1926 the India Alkali Works became the Savogran Company. The Savogran Company purchased the assets of the Sterling-Clark-Lurton Corporation in 2004 to capitalize on the synergies of these two historic companies. SCL was incorporated in 1922 as the Plymouth Rock Paint Company. In 1924, the name was changed to the Sterling Paint & Varnish Company. The product line consisted of a full line of exterior, interior and marine paints, as well as putty for wood and steel sash windows. Over time the product line expanded to include artist oil colors, caulking and glazing compounds and paint removers.

"Permabond’s history of developing and manufacturing engineering adhesives spans five decades and three continents. Today, Permabond Engineering Adhesives Ltd (Europe & Asia) and Permabond LLC (Americas) provide technological solutions to engineers all over the world, with offices and facilities in America, Asia, and Europe, backed by a high-tech ISO 9001 certified production plant in Europe.Permabond’s first moments started in the UK, early in the 1960s. For years, manufacturers had no choice but to rely on mechanical means of locking nuts and bolts. The high rate of failure due to equipment vibrations required a more reliable means of locking fasteners on equipment and finished goods. Chemists at Borden Chemicals (UK) seized this opportunity to develop a special anaerobic adhesive sealant that cured to a solid plastic when used between metal surfaces in the absence of oxygen. As predicted, these adhesives were well received by the manufacturing sector, and business expanded rapidly. Avdel Ltd spotted this growth and quickly moved to purchase this business from Borden Chemical. As the business continued to grow, they moved to a larger facility on Woodside Road in Eastleigh. The market for adhesives and sealants that could meet the engineering needs of industry was apparent, even at this early date. Avdel invested heavily in Research & Development, creating a number of anaerobic products to seal threaded pipes and fittings, retain bearings and press-fit parts, and form-in-place gaskets. Meanwhile, in Florida, United States, three men in the jewelry distribution business ‘accidentally’ discovered cyanoacrylate adhesive and its ability to bond pearls into jewelry. They formed a company called Pearl Chemical and sold cyanoacrylate adhesive for this purpose. One of the three owners came up with the idea to suspend a farm tractor from a crane, held by nothing except a drop of cyanoacrylate! The picture was used on some of the earliest cyanoacrylate packaging."
