Application Details: ELASTOSIL® R plus 4001/90 MH is suited for the manufacture of molded articles.

Special equipment and molds may be necessary for injection molding due to the very high viscosity and hardness of this grade.

Properly cured and post-cured vulcanizates of ELASTOSIL® R plus 4001/90 MH can be used for food contact applications and are suitable for use under the Recommendation "XV. Silicones" of the BfR and FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 "Rubber Articles Intended for Repeated Use" considering any given limitations on extractable and volatile substances.

Processing

ELASTOSIL® R plus 4001 series is particularly suited for press-curing or processing on a silicone rubber injection molding machine.

The platinum catalyst can be deactivated by e.g. amines or sulfur compounds.

Properties

Cured Properties
Properties: ELASTOSIL® R plus 4001/90 MH is a fast curing silicone rubber exhibiting good to very good mechanical properties. Thanks to addition cure, the vulcanization reaction is significantly faster compared to peroxide curing materials. No peroxide decomposition products are formed during vulcanization. At service temperatures above approx. 180 °C the addition of heat stabilizers is recommended.
Note: Cure conditions: 15 min / 165 °C in press, post-cured 4 h / 200 °C for cured properties.

Storage & Handling

Storage Information: Please store the cardboard boxes in a dry and cool place. Once opened, cardboard boxes should always be resealed after use to prevent the platinum catalyst from being poisoned by amines, sulfur or phosphorus compounds.
