SILFOAM® SD 986

1 of 38 products in this brand
SILFOAM® SD 986 is an antifoam solution with a low viscosity that incorporates a small amount of highly viscous silicone fluid. The presence of dimethylpolysiloxane in SILFOAM® SD 986 provides effective defoaming properties in various mineral oil products and non-aqueous systems. This is attributed to its low surface tension and excellent spreading ability, enabling efficient foam control.

Functions: Anti-Foaming Agent

Chemical Family: Silicones

Applications
  • SILFOAM® SD 986 can be used in a variety of different applications, example in applications in the oil field (crude oil / natural gas separators), in refinery processes (visbreaking, coking), in foaming distillation processes and in other foaming, nonaqueous formulations.
  • Often, just a few ppm of SILFOAM® SD 986 will be sufficient for effective foam destruction.
Application Details
  • The required dosage is between 2 and 100 ppm and depends mainly on the medium to be defoamed and on the process.
  • To avoid overdosage and to ensure rapid dispersion and thus high effectiveness, it is advisable to further dilute the solution.
  • SILFOAM® SD 986 is soluble in a 1:10 dilution in: kerosene, gas oil, middle distillate, white spirit, petroleum ether, chlorinated hydrocarbons, chlorofluorohydrocarbons, ethyl acetate, methyl isobutyl ketone.
  • SILFOAM® SD 986 is insoluble in a 1:10 dilution in: water, alcohol, glycol, glycerine, cyclohexanone, acetone.
